On Saturday morning next, 17th April yet another convoy of five trucks loaded with material aid will leave Rosslare on the long journey across Northern Europe via Berlin and Warsaw to Belarus. This aid which consists of summer and winter clothing, footwear, nappies, soap and washing powder and beds is for distribution at five different locations.

Three Day Care centres in Yelsk, Zitkovichi and Soligorsk will receive some of the items; the baby orphanage at Slutsk, the location of our first building project, will get nappies and some of the washing powder and Ratamka, where we are in the process of constructing a “halfway house” facility will get much needed beds.

Four of the trucks will be away from Ireland for almost ten days and the fifth truck with Andy and Joan Cloke aboard will be away for the best part of three weeks. Three counties are represented – Galway with Francie Conway in one truck and John O’Dowd & Philip Collins in another; Carlow with Willie Rooney & Jimmy Murphy and Wexford with Anthony Kinsella & Marty Murphy (who comes from Carlow).

In addition to delivering aid, Andy and Joan will be making final arrangements for the summer Rest and Recuperation visit by children from some of the radiation affected areas of Belarus.

We wish them all a safe and trouble free journey.
